Believe it or not fashion itself was not here until the 12th century. At the time there were two forms; tailoring and draping. A tailored garment is one that is close to the body and has structure and shape. Tailored clothing is cut and sewn together, which creates the structured form against the body. A draped garment is one that is loose-fitting, and does not fit to the body. Draped clothing is usually pleated, pinned, or belted in many different forms. Both are two different techniques, and there are seen today in modern fashion.
However, if we go back thousands and thousands of years we can see that clothing was simpler back then. The most common garment seen in earlier times would be a tunic, draped skirts, or capelike garments made from animal skins or very cheap fabrics that were available at the time.
Until the next post!
