When I first stumbled across the cover of the beauty book “How to Look Expensive: A Beauty Editor’s Secrets to Getting Gorgeous without Breaking the Bank” I automatically had a vision in my head. I pictured that when I read this book, I will be ready to strut myself down the streets of the city, with every car stopping to glance at my expensive new look. Now, of course, that is a far reach, but it is safe to say this book immediately grabbed my attention.
The author Andrea Pomerantz Lustig is quite the beauty guru. She was one of the people who started Glamour Magazines beauty blog, and I for one always loved reading her advice on anything and everything beauty. She was also editor in chief at sephora.com, and as well as that she was the fitness director of Cosmopolitan magazine for ten years. So if anyone is going to write a book on beauty, it’s going to be her.
Something that I admired was that the author included beauty products that were both drug store and specialty. She even went as far as to recommend her favorite drugstore products and give a list of resources for future reference. I admire that quality about this book since many people seems to overlook great drugstore products. Each page has beautiful, easy-to-read illustrations that don’t take away from the actual content that is presented.
This is one of the best beauty books I have read so far. In such a saturated market it’s hard to make a beauty book stand out. It allows the reader to implement the advice into their lives. It gets to the point, is beautifully illustrated and gives an honest, raw point of view as well as tips. So we can look our best without breaking the bank. If anyone wants a fresh, new take on the beauty world and wants to learn a few secrets, I highly recommend this one.
