Jersey knit is a low-maintenance fabric that makes up your favorite t-shirts, bodycon dresses and tanks. Its soft appearance and material makes it ideal for the spring and summer season. This guide will break down the washing process so your pieces can last longer and will look as good as new.
Washing
First things first, always check the label on the piece you want to wash. Don’t know what the labels mean? Check out this guide.
Remember to turn any embellished or patterned garments inside out and avoid mixing bright colors and whites together in the wash since they may bleed together.
To Hand wash or to machine wash?
Washing jersey in the washing machine or hand washing are both good options for jersey knit since it’s a low-maintenance fabric.
How to hand wash
Fill a basin or any clean container with cold water and add a few drops of a mild detergent. Let it soak for around 30 minutes. Drain the dirty water and rinse in cold water until all of the soap is washed away. Our favorite mild detergents are Tide Free and Gentle Liquid Laundry Detergent, Seventh Generation Natural Laundry Detergent Fresh Citrus and Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Liquid Laundry Detergent.
Absorb the excess water with a towel, but be careful not to wring or twist the fabric, press the fabric to remove any excess moisture.
How to Machine wash
Make sure you turn the garment inside out before you put it in the machine. Also try to avoid mixing any colors with whites, since colors may bleed. Select the cycle to delicate, water temperate to cold and the spin cycle to low.
Drying
To air Dry or to use a dryer?
You can either air dry jersey or tumble dry on the lowest setting.
How to air dry
Lay the item flat in its natural shape on a drying rack or hang to dry.
How to machine dry
Tumble dry on the lowest heat.
Ironing
to iron or not to iron?
To remove wrinkles, we recommend steaming for the best and safest finish. However, if you want to iron it’s recommended to hover over the item using the steam setting, or press using the lowest temperature setting.
Tip: To remove wrinkles, steaming is the best and safest option.
Properly taking care of your denim keeps it around for longer. Always make sure to check the care labels of what you’re washing and be aware of any specific care instructions; whether washing, drying, or ironing, to keep your clothing looking as good as new.
