Ever notice how quickly these months go by? One day it feels like it’s the first of the month and before you know it it’s the last week of the month and. Which mean you are putting away your sweaters and cardigans and trading them for shorts and tank tops. I must admit though, I do have a few sweaters still in my closet. You can never trust the weather completely. Recently I have been silently observing all the new trends, which is something I do almost every month. This time, however, I figured I would compile both May trends and June trends together. Who knows, maybe we can see some trends repeat themselves! Now I present to you a compilation of the trends from the months of May and June.
June trends for tops:
June is taking a bold step to layering. What we can start to see is floral on floral layering trend. Mixing large floral prints and mixing smaller prints is totally a do. But, cmon when was it a don’t? That’s right. Never. Long floral dresses should definitely be a staple for this upcoming summer season. They can be versatile and it’s a lot easier to wear a long dress in the summer than pants and a top. A little tip for making a dress versatile and creating different looks with it is always focusing on the accessories. One day you can add a belt around your waist and the next you can add a scarf and a breezy kimono to change-up the look completely. The point of clothing is to get the full use out of it, so add those accessories but remember to keep it simple.
Bottoms:
Trousers and wide-legged pants are strutting their way into this trend report as being one of the most popular items to wear. Trousers are a great item to wear for your grad party shenanigans, night out with friends or if you are like me to take a picture of them, and then lie on your bed. Either way, make sure the trousers are lightweight. So choosing a lightweight fabric like cotton or linen would definitely help. I know they wrinkle so choosing a cotton blend would be a much better choice. However, if you’re feeling like a queen, want to treat yourself, you should go for silk trousers and eat those grapes while you lounge in your lawn chair.
Shoes:
This month is all about sandals, boots, and mules.
Accessories:
Black sunglasses are currently the it-factor. And I mean all black sunglasses from round shapes, to cat eye fierce glasses. I mean how many black sunglasses can a girl have?
The trends from May:
Tops:
We can see that bold stripes were in effect. There was an array of different uses of stripes. Some designers used thick vertical stripes and others used thin horizontal stripes. Around this time, we are also seeing the 80s styles making huge waves on the runways. I am talking bold, in your face metallics and colors. Honestly, I am totally down with that. I live to express myself with colors and hope the trend may carry on, but not overpower the new current trends.
Bottoms:
Mid-length skirts are in once again followed by monochromatic looks. A popular color is metallic which is versatile for both nights out as well as a run into town. It can be worn both ways within the same night, no quick changes needed! Another trend with skirts is the pleat and high and low look.
Shoes:
Flatforms were a huge hit. Now if you are wondering what “flatforms’ are they are a mix between a flat sandal and a platform shoe. Technically your foot is flat, and you’re elevated a good 3-4 inches which I think is always a win-win. Hurray for looking taller!
