Ever wonder why fast-fashion became so great? I do, constantly. What’s up with the obsession of having clothing constantly at our disposable at any given moment, and c’mon, let’s be real here, we only wear the same three outfits.
There’s be a shift in attitudes lately towards fast-fashion and what kind of trouble will that do to the empires of H&M, Forever 21, Zara and ASOS? Only time will tell, but for now let’s put them to the side and focus on these rising sustainable brands that focus on pieces that are transitional and timeless.
Dear Frances
Dear Frances is created for the modern women. They stock a wide variety of shoes from heels, mules, boots, flats and more. They make all of their shoes in Italy, where they are handmade and they solely believe in reducing waste and stopping over-production of items. One of my favorite things about Dear Frances is that they have partnered with the non-profit organization Soles4Souls where every pair of shoe purchased is sent to someone in need.

AYR
AYR stands for All Year Round and they focus on creating classic, timeless pieces that don’t need a particular season to stand out. Everything from this company is made from the USA, as they are located in New York, and make everything in LA. They strive on creating clothing rather than fashion and stray away from over-producing; a common, positive trait with sustainable brands. They sell a variety of products from tops to bottoms and even have accessories.
Everlane
Everlane is what you can call the perfect package wrapped with a sustainable bow. They have transparency within their company, believe in ethical factories, and get rid of unnecessary markups. Which to sum it up means the price they make it for will only be doubled twice, not six times. Talk about a dream, right? They sell both men’s and women’s clothing and offer everything but the kitchen sink. Sign me up pronto.
Reformation
If you’ve been on social media lately, then you have probably seen those ads stating “You look better naked.” Look no further, since it is right in front of your eyes. Yep, this is the brand you have been seeing and they live by the motto “Being naked is the #1 most sustainable option.” Despite that being a 100% true statement, it makes me cold just thinking about it, so we prefer the clothing for this one. (Unless, you’re a nudist, and if you are, then rock on.) What they do with their line is focus on fit, which is rare to see in this super speedy world of fashion. They fit all of their clothing to many sizes of women. This means a bunch of fit models. And for the people wondering what a fit model is, it’s a person who helps a garment on the body fit as well as it can be. They are the vital part to the production part in fashion, but save that post for another day. Reformation is setting the bar for what fashion should be in this current day. Let’s just hope that other brands catch on to this and cut out their fast-fashion ways and slow it down.
