Trust me, I don’t hate winter with a burning passion, but if I did I would probably be a lot warmer than I am now. I just dislike the constant feeling of wearing too much clothing in the winter to the point I’m sweating, or not wearing enough and I’m freezing. I like a balance between the two, which is a huge reason of why fall is my favorite season. But back to the topic! Now the type of cold weather I’m thinking of and the type of weather others are used to are two different things. So I am going to prepare you for weather in the 30s and 40s.
So this is why I am creating the Cold Girls Guide to Staying Warm. So the first step of going from a cold girl to a warm girl would be the first layer.
The first layer would be a shirt. No brainer here. Now, when the weather is very chilly, and I am up in the mornings rather than the afternoons the weather is usually down a few degrees. So I would usually put on a tank top before I put on my shirt. The shirt could either be a short sleeve, quarter sleeve or long sleeves.
The second layer would be a jacket, cardigan or a sweater. Now the sweater shouldn’t be heavy, but light. What I mean by this is that the sweater shouldn’t be chunky and also shouldn’t be a heavy material. Heavy materials are wool, a thick cable knit and so on. So if you wear a very heavy and thick sweater your other layers serve no purpose. Layering is so you can take off one but still be warm.
The third layer would be a coat. This coat is the biggest thing since it’s the last protective layer against the terrible and frigid cold. Yes, a bit dramatic, but the coat is the biggest part. The coat should be lined, and for ultimate warmth the material I recommend would be either wool, or wool-blend. These types of coats can be found at H&M, JCPenny’s, Kohl’s, Macy’, Zara, or Forever 21.
With all of these layers you should be cozy, warm and ready to brave the weather. Plus you would be able to remove one without feeling the total wrath of the winter.
Until next time!
Love,
Lola
